Auran Piatigorsky, PhD, LP, CMPC
As a licensed clinical sports psychologist, I optimize the mental health and performance of elite athletes, coaches, teams, and others. My unique approach — Dialectical Sports Skills — adapts cognitive and dialectical behavior therapies (CBT/DBT) to address the distinct needs of athletics.
After I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder, I led extended wilderness expeditions worldwide. These adventures demanded high performance under acute pressure, harsh conditions, and prolonged stress — challenges that parallel those of competitive athletics.
Following an injury, I shifted my focus toward psychology. I earned both my M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of California, Berkeley (Cal), with a specialization in developmental psychopathology. After advanced clinical training, conducting research, and engaging in community-based work, I served as an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry in the CBT/DBT clinic at the University of California, San Francisco. This role equipped me to address the broad range of mental health issues that are commonly encountered in athletics.
My passion for sports inspired me to pursue a secondary specialization as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP #945).
Today, as a private practitioner, I integrate clinical expertise with performance psychology, recognizing that mental health and athletics are deeply intertwined. I provide holistic, evidence-based care through bespoke psychological services that are tailored to individual needs.
In addition, I currently serve on the faculty in the Department of Psychology at Cal, where I teach and supervise in the clinical psychology graduate program.
